Councillor Mona Adam has delivered a message criticising Starmer’s Labour Party and calling on Londoners to back Zoë Garbett and the Green Party in the London elections next week.
Elected as a Labour Councillor two years ago, Councillor Mona Adam has since joined the Green Party following Labour’s consistent U-turns and their negligent position on Gaza.
Councillor Adams came to the UK as a refugee in 2004, joining the Labour Party and getting elected for Golborne Ward, Kensington and Chelsea Council, in 2022. She became the first Green Party councillor in the borough in November last year.
Mona spoke of the difference between the parties, describing the experience of representing her community and ward as a Green councillor as “levelling up” what she can do.
Councillor Mona Adam said:
“Two years ago I was elected as a Labour councillor. Today, I am asking you to vote for the Green Party on May 2nd. Keir Starmer’s Labour is a party I just can’t trust any more. It has let our communities down. Just yesterday, I was talking to a woman who said it’s time to give someone else a chance.
“It’s time for options. The Conservatives have let us down. Labour have let us down. We need something else. That is why I am backing Zoë Garbett to be Mayor of London and that’s why Londoners should vote for the Green Party. The time is now. ”
Green candidate for Mayor of London Zoë Garbett said:
“Having the support of a person like Mona is such an honour. She has such an incredible story and is an outstanding representative for her local community.
“The tides are changing. People have seen Keir Starmer’s Labour for what it is; a Conservative project with a red rosette. Londoners need something different from Labour; the Greens are offering that change.”
“Greens have consistently finished third in London. People know that our councillors and Assembly Members work hard. This election is the perfect opportunity to vote Green and send a message that things have to change.”
Mona’s defection follows other defections from Labour to Greens in recent years.
Zoë Garbett is running for London Mayor alongside a slate of Green candidates for the London Assembly.
